Woman Puts Grandkids In Dog Crates Because There Was No Room In The Car

Saturday afternoon a woman driving by was so disturbed  by what she saw taking place on Elvis Presley Blvd. that she immediately pulled out her camera and started filming.

The video shows a woman standing next to the trunk of her Ford Explorer and holding the door of a dog kennel open as a young girl climbs out feet first and walks away.  The woman then appears to latch the kennel back up as the person with the camera begins to pull away.

Since the video has gone viral, police have announced on Facebook that they did arrest the 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks and have charged her with two counts of child endangerment.

Cheeks told police that there was no room in the car so she told the kids to get in the kennels and claims that she checked on them periodically despite that the 7 and 8 year olds were in the kennels for approximately 35 minutes whils she drove from Whitehaven to Collierville in 95 degree heat.

Police have interviewed Cheek's neighbors and the majority of them say that she is a very good neighbor and that she is a very caring person.   She loves her grandkids and is always outdoors playing with them.

Cheeks remains in jail for the time being and is scheduled to see a judge on Monday morning.  She could face 12 years in jail if she gets the maximum sentence.
